The Poseidon System, Computer Vision that saves seconds and lives

Dr Frederic Guichard, Chief Scientiest, Poseidon Technologies

Abstract

The Poseidon System is an intelligent system that uses proprietary computer vision technology to provide constant surveillance of the pool and monitor the trajectories of swimmers.

The system analyzes activity in the pool captured by a network of cameras mounted both above and below the surface.

In less than 15 seconds, the system alerts lifeguards via a beeper and monitor when a swimmer is motionless or in trouble beneath the surface.

Real-time video images of the incident and its location are displayed (and recorded) immediately on a workstation monitor.

What our system wasn't designed to do is replace lifeguards. It was created with the express purpose of assisting them to save lives.
