Generative, appearance-based approach. Small number of trainign images for each face (different lighting conditions), reconstruct the shape and albedo of the face to use for the generative part. Sample the pose space (of this model). Use the Yale face data (10 people, 9 poses, 45 illuminations -- 4050 images)( See also Yale Face Database. ). Training on 7 frontal pose with near-frontal illuminations for each face (70 images). Compares 5 variations. Full pose model (3-D) is best by far. BibRef
